Kushtia, known as the cultural capital of Bangladesh. The great name Kushtia, it is generally believed that the zila Kushtia might have derived its name form the word "Kushta" meaning Jute which was abundantly grown in this area. The geographical location of Kushtia is between 23°42' and 24° 12' north latitudes and between 88°42' and 89°22' east longitudes. The area now constitutes Kushtia zila comprises of only the sadar sub-division of former Kushtia district .It is renamed as Kushtia zila in 1984. . The zila is bounded on the north by Rajshahi, Natore and Pabna zila on the east by Rajbari zila on the south by Jhenaidah and on the west by Chuadanga , Meherpur zilla and India . The total area of the zila is 1621.15 sq.km ( 625 .93 sq. miles ) of which 63.09 sq. km ( 24.36 sq. miles) is reverine. |
